A series of glass blown light pendants, with mesmerising and bulbous shapes, in which the main role is played by the reflection created through the tactile structured glass surface. When light hits the surface of mouth-blown glass, every shape or line becomes visible in its reflection and provide a unique spectacle on the environment. For this series, the studio has intensively researched the mesmerising effects of light through imprints of different shapes and structures in glass. Various constructions and grid frameworks are developed to create the most striking light effects. Coloured projections appear on the surrounding which resemble cloudy skies, rippling water or morning dew creating a soothing, almost hypnotic effect. The studio feels the urge to create design that brings well-being, sensitivity and colour into the interior. The round and convex structure in the glass is created at the moment suprême when the red-hot, almost liquid glass shape is guided by the designers and pressed into the brutalist steel construction. A new bulbous pattern appears in the glass, being the soft and tactile counterpart of the geometric grid framework. During this performance the combination of this imprint within the free formed glass bubble makes the piece unique and part of a family of forms. The mouth blown glass seems almost untouched, with its distinct and clear polished edge. To let the glass shine, the studio developed a custom LED spot, which double serves as mounting bead, creating a floating combination of glass and light. The beam of light is projected almost invisibly on and through the structured glass surface. A series of wall lamps that originated from their love for the craft of glass blowing, in which a new glass object always starts with a bubble. A dynamic and fragile basic form in which there is all the potential of the desired object yet to be made. This simplistic and strong form appeals to the designers. For this design, the studio has managed to freeze the tension of the material in the process, by flattening the convex shape on one side, leaving the overall shape untouched. Because the glass is handblown freely and not in a mould, each piece is unique, yet part of the family. When you look longer you see the difference in thickness, colour intensity, size, but especially in character! Within these differences, the challenge was to design a 'universal' light element, which could be placed through the small opening of the bell. The light element developed by the studio is flexible and thus follows the inner shape like an infinite loop. Due to the subtle appearance of the light, inner reflections, layering and colour are radiated through the glass on the environment, separating the wall light from the background. Bulla is a combination in which craft and technology come together. The subtle suspension hook and light element were developed by the studio to emphasise the strong, simplistic shape of the glass. The light element runs like a loop of flexible LED light into a 3D printed holder. Inspired by structures and dynamics of nature: the unfolding of petals and the hypnotic effect of gently flowing water or vapour swirling upwards through the air. An elegant sleeve around the LED bar of etched PMMA can be moulded to fashion any shape or effect you like. The light effect is created by a etched pattern, which ensures that light is radiated uniformly. Even when turned off, the Vapour is an exquisite, decorative centrepiece. A family of horizontal and vertical LED bars that offer multiple configurations, with or without sleeve. The initial series consists out of two colours, one size both in a horizontal and vertical version. The optional transparent/white shell (sleeve) has a soft feeling like a vapour, where the black version has a more graphical identity. LED light is implemented in an in house developed light fixture. It is possible to change the intensity of light with the use of a dimmer. The lighting effect comes from an innovative LED technique and a specially designed line pattern on the acrylic bar. The studio has designed esthetic patterns, so the light emission can flow out naturally and the same amount of light can emit everywhere.
