After more than 10 years, The Plastic Mine is coming to an end.

Last week we were really pushing hard to create this mesmerising final collection from all the stock we still had.

It’s the end of an era for The Plastic Mine, where we had so much fun turning overproduction plastic ‘waste’ into interior beauties.

But why stop?
We are shifting our focus towards our growing lighting collection, and the factory we have been collaborating with is closing its production site in the Netherlands.

We have loved making The Plastic Mine and we are proud of what we created together with the beautiful collaborations along the way. But it feels like the right time to focus more on light, materials and creating new designs. It is exciting and we are really looking forward to what is next.

Want to know more about our new focus? Come visit us during Dutch Design Week, 17–25 October, and experience our products and lighting in our studio space at Sectie-C. We’re also celebrating 15 years of studio Thier & van Daalen, so there is plenty to celebrate!

The final Plastic Mine shelves will be launched Friday 21.08.2026 at 12.00 CET.

  • ± 1,5 kg - 5 kg a piece
  • regular:  €160,- between 15 - 30 cm wide 
  • large: + €35,- between 30 - 40 cm wide
  • XL: + €35,- between 40 - 50 cm wide
  • special (mixed and/or bizar colours) + €35,- 
  • depth may vary from 8 until ± 18 cm

Disclaimer

shapes: The studio has no influence on the colours and shapes, they depend on the overproduction and waste of the factory. They choose the best pieces and turn them into musthave products. 

marks and stains: Sometimes the plastic lumps can have some stains on the plastic from the factory, such as footprints or spots. In the transformation we will remove them as much as possible. Some stains are baked in by the heat of the plastic during the process in the factory.

discoloration: Some coloured plastics may fade slightly over time. We see this as a beauty, since the item has a life, which evolves! We have no influence on this, and do not add a chemical UV protection layer. And without this chemical layer, the item can be recycled at a plastic processing factory and be used into new products!
